Over the past year we have been working on updates to the BTBA Coaching program. These include details of how to get involved with Coaching and what you need to do to stay up to date with coaching practices as they develop over time.
Some of the changes are:
The Coaching Pathway
For beginners and experienced coaches alike, we start with the re-development of the Coaching Pathway, a guide to the levels of qualifications available from very basic steps to international recognition. It also includes an overview of the pathway journey for players, from leisure bowlers to clubs, to County, to Team England, to Professional, environments and more.
Coaching Code Of Practice
Coaches, leaders, and instructors play a critical role in the development of any sport or activity, and in the lives of the people they coach. Good coaches ensure participants have positive experiences, so they are more likely to continue and achieve their potential.
Coaches must demonstrate a high degree of honesty, integrity, and competence. The need for coaches to understand and act on their responsibilities is vital to our sport, as is the need to promote participation for fun and enjoyment, as well as achievement.
The UK Coaching Code of Practice for Sports Coaches defines all that is best in coaching practice, and we use this as a guide for our coaches.
Renewal of your Coaching licence will signify your acceptance of the Code of Practice.
Coaching Assistant
We have redeveloped the entry level course and renamed it to Coaching Assistant.
The purpose of the original Fundamentals level has often been misunderstood. It was developed to encourage people to assist at their local YBC’s, working with brand new bowlers and helping them develop rudimentary swing and balance techniques. It does not provide sufficient information for them to develop people to any more than a very basic standard.
So, unless these coaches are only going to work with beginners, as their students develop, they will need a much broader understanding of the skills required which will be achieved through our existing EBF qualifications program. This course is priced at £25.00.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding is a significant part of providing licenses to coaches. All coaches must be aware of the safeguarding needs of our junior bowlers and as such we require all coaches and officials to take the entry level Safeguarding Children Awareness course before they will be able to renew their licences going forward. All of the above updates are available on the BTBA website und er the heading BTBA Coaching which you can access by clicking on our Logo
Moving Forwards..
As we continue to work on the Coaching program, we will be providing updates and training materials through the Coaching pages on the website. This page will develop over time and will become a hub for all coaching related material accessible by all BTBA members. So, keep watching the BTBA social media as items get added to the programme.
