We have two announcement that affect the processes around renewing your memberships and obtaining your safeguarding licences..
Both of these notices have been published previously but we are seeing a large number of licence applications failing for one or both of the reasons below.
It is important that you read both of these notices and carry out the actions required for us to process your renewals smoothly.
1. CHANGES TO THE DBS UPDATE REGISTER
At the beginning of 2025 the DBS service changed the way that they handle volunteer DBS registrations. While they continue to be free of charge to all volunteers the previous practice of rolling the registration over from one year to the next has been changed. They will still send a reminder out but these days they require that you respond to the email informing them that you are still volunteering. If they don’t hear from you they will cancel the registration. Unfortunately, if you have already received this notification and have not responded you will need to reapply for a new certificate.
You can check the status of your registration by logging on to the DBS update service using this link.. You will need your Personal registration number which is 11 numbers long and normally begins with a “C”. It is not the same as your Certificate number.
If you need a new DBS certificate you can apply for that using this link..
2. ALL COACHES AND OFFICIALS ARE REQUIRED TO TAKE SAFEGUARDING COURSE EACH YEAR
Safeguarding is a significant part of providing licenses to coaches and Officials. All coaches must be aware of the safeguarding needs of our junior bowlers and as such we require all coaches and officials to take the entry level Safeguarding Children Awareness course. This course or any other from our range of safeguarding courses must be taken at least once every year. Once a course has been passed information will automatically be sent to the BTBA and we will update your membership record with the details of all courses taken. For the purposes of licence renewal all courses will have an expiry date set at 12 months.
The courses may be taken at any time during the year and as long as at least one course has been taken in the last 12 months, your license will be renewed when you renew your BTBA membership. Please see the full announcement on the BTBA website here.. (includes a link to get details of the courses available).
