It gives me pleasure to announce that Team England will be participating in the 2021 Super World Championships in Dubai in early November.
We have in recent days been approached and asked to send a team as our participation in the event will help in the global commercial value of the sport and also assist in securing a UK Broadcaster to showcase our sport for the championships, and I’m sure you will agree that this is HUGE for the sport.
On our behalf, there have been ongoing negotiations with some commercial sponsors to see if it would be possible to fund our participation in the forthcoming event. To that end, we are now in a position to be able to send a team of 2 men and 2 women to the Championships. Due to the lateness of our agreement to participate, selecting a team has been something of a tricky situation for us as a committee. With the UK having been in lockdown for much of the last 18 months, it has put an incredible amount of stress on to a selection committee. Our forthcoming trials will not be completed until a week prior to departure for the event which is not an option for us to use. Registration for the Championships also closes next week.
With all of this in mind the Executive Council of the BTBA and Head of Team England have made the one-off decision to select the following bowlers to represent Team England at the 2021 Super World Championships:
These four bowlers have all been actively participating in events throughout the last 18 months. They have proven themselves at various tournaments during this time, winning titles along the way. Their current form cannot be questioned, and I am sure you will all join me in wishing them all the very best of luck for the Championships.
I would like to stress that this is a one-off selection process due to the pandemic and this approach will not be used for future championships.
This really is a very important event and one that we feel we cannot miss out on. Tenpin Bowling is on the rise again and the profile of the sport is being increased worldwide thanks to the efforts of the International Bowling Federation (IBF). I have personally had a lot of dealings with the IBF team, and am very excited about the journey that they are taking our sport on.
I understand that this announcement will come as a shock for some so if you have any comments to make, please direct these to me in the first instance at firstname.lastname@example.org. Comments and posts on Social Media will not be answered.
All that leaves me to do now is to say “Congratulations!” to the bowlers who have been selected and “very best wishes for the World Championships!”
