Stop 6 of the BTBA Tenpintour 2026 took place at Hollywood Bowl Branksome (Poole) on 27 & 28 June 2026. A total of 78 senior bowlers, comprising 58 men and 20 women took part this month.
Note: The Tenpintour is a Seniors tour with handicap scores. Total Scores & Total Pinfalls quoted below are inclusive of handicap, however the averages are event averages and are therefore scratch.
Men – This months Top-5 athletes recorded no less that 23 honour games (> 200), 6 games in excess of 250 and 2 games of 279! Nick Longworth announced he was going to be the target to chase, by opening with a 266 game, and adding a 267 in Game 5 in a set of 5 honours to take the title with 1,396 scr. + 192 hcap. = 1,588 / 233 avg. event totals. 2nd place Alan Meades opened with one of the two 279 games mentioned above then followed with another 5 honors for a superb 1,418 scr +120 hcap. = 1,538 / 236 whilst Stephen Bose in 3rd shot the second of the 279’s in Game 4 of his 4 honours 1,327 + 174 = 1,501 / 121 set. Reading like a ‘Who’s Who’ of the Tenpintour, 4th place then saw Ray Lay with four honours card a 1,242 + 258 = 1,500 / 207 and 5th placed Barry Collins recorded 3 honours in his 1,224 + 258 = 1,482 / 204 scorecard!
A glance at the men’s results shows almost no letup as quality play, littered with honours in excess of 250 games, were crafted by many of the men. It would seem that more than half of the games bowled by the first 27 men were honour scores! Let’s not ignore others who put together runs of three honours, including Harald Gray (224/216/211), Mike Smith (240/213/252) and Ian Oakley (201/202/202). Congratulations to everyone!
Women – Bowling four Honour Games ensured Kim Oakley was cooked a delicious dinner by hubby Ian with 1,275 + 30 = for 1,305 /213 avg., but also bowling the women’s High Game of 267 AND the women’s High Series of 1,275 surely mean’t champagne to wash it down with as well? Not though to forget other great performances, as in 2nd place Sarah Boyer carded 3 honours in her 1,073 +168 = 1,242 / 179, closely followed by 3rd placed Bev Smitheram with 1,072 + 168 = 1,240 / 179, Elaine Davey 4th with 1,084 + 150 = 1,234 / 181 and Sandra Boswell in 5th recording 1,039 + 192 = 1,231 / 173.
The men’s High Game of 279 was shared by both Alan Meades and Stephen Bose and the men’s High Series of 1,418 (scr.) also by Alan! The women’s High Game of 267 and High Series of 1,275 (scr.) were both bowled by Kim Oakley.
Congratulations to all who competed, especially our Stop winners Nick and Kimberley. Our next outing sees us at Acocks Green on 1/2 August.
