64th BTBA National Championships 2026
The 64th BTBA National Championships took place at Mansfield SuperBowl over two weekends on 13th, 14th, 27th and 28th June, bringing together bowlers for Singles, Doubles, Team and All Events competition across Open and Women’s divisions.
The BTBA would like to thank the management and staff at Mansfield SuperBowl for their hospitality and support throughout both weekends. With multiple squads each day, lane changes and four days of competition to manage, the team at Mansfield helped the Championships run smoothly and created a great environment for both bowlers and supporters.
This year’s Championships were played on a 41ft modified Crown Jewel oil pattern. The condition offered different challenges across both weekends, with the heat potentially playing a part in the conditions on each day. The pattern rewarded accuracy, ball choice and the ability to make the right moves as the lanes transitioned. Although nobody managed a perfect game, there was no shortage of high scoring, with several games in the 280s, a host of 270-plus performances and some outstanding team totals.
Singles
In Open Singles Division A, Lee Cocker took the National title with an excellent 733 series, rolling games of 258, 234 and 241. Jamie Bottomley finished second on 717, with Gareth Greaves third on 710 and Hadley Morgan just two pins further back on 708.
Rob Thurlby produced the highest Singles game of the Championships, closing with 279 to climb into sixth place on 699.
There was also a tie for eighth and ninth, with David Coote and Mark Patrick both finishing on 687. Coote took the higher position under the tournament tie-break rule after finishing with 229, compared with Patrick’s 181.
Damian Gray won Open Singles Division B with 659, following an opening 182 with games of 244 and 233. Selwyn Morgan finished just four pins behind on 655 after closing with 252, while Dan Whiteley took third on 630.
In Open Singles Division C, Luke Perry claimed the title with 581, including a 221 middle game.
The Women’s Singles produced one of the strongest title-winning performances of the Championships. Hayley Russell won Women’s Singles Division A with 708, rolling 235, 256 and 217. Katie Teece was second on 645, while Cali Hannan-Woods closed with 243 to secure third place on 615.
Chelsey Dolan won Women’s Singles Division B with 624, ahead of Natalie Boot, who finished strongly with 245 for a 596 total.
Doubles
In Open Doubles Division A, Bunch of Amatuers’ Brandon Roberts and Hadley Morgan claimed the title with 1403. The pair recovered from an opening 401 with games of 508 and 494 to move clear at the top.
You Can’t Bowl There, Mate!’s Louise Gray and Toby Clark finished second on 1343, five pins ahead of Jetorrenola’s Darren Michael and Tom Langley, who took third with 1338. Geeforce’s Reece Parker-Smith and Sukky Gill completed the top four on 1321.
The Open Doubles Division B title went to Manchester YBC’s father-and-son pairing of Ian and Nathan Cropper, who produced consistent team games of 448, 443 and 450 for 1341.
OTB’s Alex Castle and Will Roarty were second on 1323, helped by a huge 536 middle game. OTB 3’s Clint Miller and Adam Purnell finished third on 1287, just one pin ahead of James Lessey and Thomas Bridges on 1286.
In Open Doubles Division C, Chucky Bin Adnan and Andrew Wong took the title for Grip & Rip It with 1132, closing with their best game of 439.
The Women’s Doubles titles went to two pairings who saved some of their best scoring for the final game.
Phoenixes’ Hayley Russell and Faye Elkington-Theaker won Women’s Doubles Division A with an outstanding 1438, improving throughout the set with games of 469, 476 and 493.
In Women’s Doubles Division B, JSBS’s Natalie Boot and Jo Marshall won with 1225 after finishing with a strong 458 game.
Team
The Team event produced some of the highest scoring of the Championships.
Bunch of Amatuers won Open Team Division A with 2770. The team of Peter Stevenson, Rob Thurlby, Brandon Roberts and Hadley Morgan, bowling in that order, opened with 919 before producing a superb 982 second game and closing with 869.
Hull finished second on 2637, represented by Adrian Devey, Jon Parker, Ian Hollands and Lee Knaggs. Their challenge included the highest team game of the Championships, an excellent 996, with Lee Knaggs contributing an individual 280.
In Open Team Division B, You Can’t Bowl There, Mate! took the National title with 2544. Toby Clark, Louise Gray, Lee Burrows and Damian Gray combined for games of 796, 925 and 823.
Manchester YBC finished second on 2429, with Ian Cropper, Nathan Cropper, Cali Hannan-Woods and Ben Cropper. They made a flying start with 879 before adding 789 and 761.
OTB 1 won Open Team Division C with 1934. The team of Alison Dezsi, Mel Victoria, Lewis Spender and Michael Rich improved throughout their set, finishing with 684. Lewis Spender provided the highlight with a 279 final game.
In the Women’s Team events, Phoenixes won Division A with 2458. Natasja Ailes, Rachel Cox, Faye Elkington-Theaker and Hayley Russell rolled games of 792, 846 and 820, with Russell closing the team block with an excellent 278.
JSBS won Women’s Team Division B with 2425. Natalie Boot, Jo Marshall, Sara Tooze and Jo Cundy finished strongly with 840 after games of 818 and 767.
All Events
Rob Thurlby completed an outstanding Championships by winning Open All Events Division A with 2129. His nine-game total included two separate 279 games — one in Singles and another in Doubles — together with a 725 Team series.
Lee Cocker finished second on 2118 after adding a 748 Doubles block, which included a 289 game, to his title-winning Singles performance. Hadley Morgan was third on 2085, with Brandon Roberts fourth on 2014 and Steve Thornton fifth on 2006.
Damian Gray added the Open All Events Division B title to his Singles success, finishing with 1949. His final Team block of 670, which included games of 245 and 254, moved him ahead of Ian Cropper on 1934.
Lee Jefferson finished third on 1874, followed by Josh Bland on 1831 and Nathan Cropper on 1818.
Clint Miller won Open All Events Division C with 1733. His performance was highlighted by a 273 game during the Doubles event.
In the Women’s All Events, Hayley Russell completed a remarkable Championships by winning Division A with 2100. Russell averaged more than 233 across her nine games, combining her 708 Singles title, a 691 Doubles series and a 701 Team block.
Faye Elkington-Theaker finished second on 1978, with Jo Cundy third on 1937 after ending her Team set with 257.
Chelsey Dolan completed a Singles and All Events double by winning Women’s All Events Division B with 1782. Sara Tooze finished second on 1750.
High games
The modified Crown Jewel pattern produced plenty of high-scoring moments across the four days.
Lee Cocker and William Line shared the highest individual game of the Championships with 289. Cocker’s came during the Doubles event, while Line rolled his during Team competition.
Lee Knaggs followed closely with 280 for Hull in the Team event. Rob Thurlby rolled two 279 games, one in Singles and one in Doubles, while Lewis Spender also posted 279 in Team competition.
Faye Elkington-Theaker fired 279 in Doubles, with Steve Creasy and Will Roarty both rolling 278 in Doubles. Adam Purnell added a 278 in the Team event, while Hayley Russell closed her Team set with 278.
Other notable games included Clint Miller’s 273, Matthew Clayton and Hadley Morgan with 269, Ian Cropper, Louise Gray and Hadley Morgan with 268, and Johnathan McCoy with 266.
