Reports

Singles

Hopes high as always as we started singles in the 2026 EWC edition in Odense, Denmark with our first duo of Yola Stephenson and Vicki Harman. Splits becoming annoying early on with two each then Yola hitting a double toward the end of the first game as Vicki hit spares then another split in the ninth, Yola with 184 and Vicki split yet again for 144.

Train running in game two and Yola off to four in a row as Vicki split for a change then a great double and a spare. Front six for Yola and Vicki sparing but then an eigh spare ending the super run. Back though with a double and still on 278 pace but another split returning for Vicki. Yola ending with a split open for a fine 243 and Vicki an improved 169.

Splits back for Yola and three in the first four frames but Vicki avoiding for now and three strikes in four frames. Yola ending with 173 and Vicki with 180. Game four and Yola closed through seven frame but two splits for Vicki but back with a double near the end. 195 for Yola and 166 for Vicki.

Game five and despite an open Vicki was brighter and carrying a turkey as Yola closed through six frames. Vicki then going on a run for eight in a row and a fantastic 257 as Yola hit a turkey in the tenth for 204. Into the final game and yes you guessed it, a few splits but also unforced errors. Yola finding something near the end and a turkey for 169 and 1168. Vicki with 162 and 1078.

Next up on Friday afternoon were our second duo of Sophie Thompson and Natasja Ailes and for the most part, a decent start apart from a couple of unforced errors and a split. Sophie finding a shot later in the game after two splits in a row and smashing in a fourbagger. Natasja still looking to get comfortable but sparing and finding a double in the ninth frame. Sophie back on strike in the tenth after a spare and hitting a double for a good 213 and Natasja much better at the end of the game with an well recovered 195.

Game two start and one to forget with one spare in three frames from our duo thanks to splits and errors. As before though time to claw it all back maybe?, Sophie with 157 and Natasja with 115.  Game three and Natasja with just one open early on and Sophie with two but beginning to find strikes. Facebook going down in the afternoon had plenty scrambling with no outage in Odense and scoring and Stream working nicely. Sophie adding two doubles and going much better now with Natasja still closing frames. Sophie with 204 and Natasja with a turkey at the end and much improved 201.

Natasja back and shooting a turkey out of the blocks in game four as Sophie open spare opened. That turned into front five then a spare for Natasja and Sophie taking over striking roles with a double as he closed in on the end of the game. Sophie with 167 and Natasja with an awesome comeback and 236.

Game five and the best start all day and both closed through seven frames, sophie with the only double so far. Maybe speaking too quick as we got our first open in the eighth from Natasja as Sophie struck then doubled in the ninth then split for 193 as Natasja hit a double in the tenth for 179.  Under ten bowlers from both squads so far were over a 200 average, these lanes were not playing easy. Final game and only one split spoiling an otherwise clean start over four frames. Sophie staying closed but a split open for Natasja but back with strike spare strike as we headed to the final frames of the block. 188 for Sophie and 1122, Natasja with 171 and 1087.

Day two of the singles and squad four with Jessica and Hayley entering the competition. Split open off the bat for Jessica but closed then though the next seven frames including a double as Hayley also with an open early on picking things up there after with a double but then a split in the eighth frame. Jessica hitting a turkey at the end for 224 and Hayley with 178. Game two and all closed after four frames then splits for each in the next couple of frames and Jessica ending with 181 and Hayley with 173.

Into game three and a hiccup for Jess with a split open but followed up with spares as Hayley closed the first four frames. Jessica then throwing a strike and Hayley flush pocket and a 7-10 split which she wore with a smile and got on with it. Both throwing good shots but not always getting the right result.  As we closed in on the end of the third game, strikes would need to start flowing to claw a finals placing. Hayley hitting a double in the seventh and Jessica throwing some amazing shots but getting nine counts.  Chop in the tenth for Jessica and 174, Hayley with a turkey in the tenth for 190.

Game four and both with opens in the first frame then closed to the fifth frame and strikes at a premium. Singles was going to add to experience and shapes now needed for later in the tournament. A split for hayley in the fifth kinda summed up singles for Team England in 2026. Jessica with a well earned double in the eighth frame and Hayley striking too.  Jessica ending with 189 and Hayley with 154.

Game five and Jessica brighter with a spare and a turkey but Hayley split to start with, two spares and a strike. Things finally coming together as Jessica hit four in a row and Hayley catching a double. Jessica taking it to a six pack but Hayley slowed with a spare in the sixth and seventh frames. Jess going wide to leave a single pin and spare to stop the run but a much bigger game was going to be booked in as she hit a double in the tenth for 255. Hayley ending with two splits for 155.

The final game and Jess on a dutch 200 after six frames but Hayley with two splits and sparing one of them. Jessica was still pacing the 200 until a split open in the ninth as Hayley spare strike spare strike. Another split for Jessica in the tenth and 185 and 1208, Hayley with 163 and 1022.

Game five and at the halfway point Sophie going well with spare Turkey spare, Yola all spares bar one then a strike, Natasja with the only split so far, Jessica open then all closed and Hayley doing Hayley things again on spare and fourbagger and still chasing a masters place.

Doubles

A morning rest for our ladies as we only had one pair on the lanes today in the afternoon at 1.45pm GMT and that was Yola Stephenson and Vicki Harman.  Despite an early open and split open Yola going well later in the game with a double in the seventh frame as Vicki with a split open right away then recovering with a double the spare and strike before an open.  Yola making it a turkey then spare as Vicki also sparing. Yola ending with 180 and Vicki striking out in the tenth for 178 and team game of 358.

Game two and Yola going well and closed through six frames then catching a double, Vicki with just one open. A much better all round performance so far today and not yet hitting too many splits. Yola with 202 and Vicki with 185 and team game of 387 and heading in the right direction. Into the third game and Yola opening with a double but a split open and a later open slowing things, Vicki open then all closed through to the seventh then double in the eighth. 176 for Yola and 173 for Vicki and 349 in the record books.

Splits back in game four but just two in six frames for both. Things just picking up for Yola with a double then split again. Vicki staying clean with spares. Strikes for both in the ninth and Yola with 189, Vicki with a split in the tenth for 157 and 346. Game five and a shaky start for Yola but recovered as Vicki strike spare strike spare early on. Strikes becoming rare but good spares being made with the odd error. Another split for Yola in the eighth but Vicki still closing frames. A spark in the ninth and both striking with Vicki hitting a double and the game ending at 337 Yola with 134 and Vicki with a hard earned 203.

Fireworks and the start of the last game as Yola hits a turkey and spare as Vicki rolls the front four but then a split for Yola and spare for Vicki. Both striking in the seventh frame but then both opening in the eighth. At the end 178 and 1059 for Yola, 201 and 1097 for Vicki, final game of 379 and an overall of 2156.

Day 2 of the Doubles on Monday with Sophie Thompson and Natasja Ailes joining the competition and a good start, Sophie with  strike spare strike and Natasja with the front three. Natasja adding a spare double and spare as Sophie still closing frames. A much better start and Sophie with 193 and Natasja with 221 for a 414 starter. Game 2 and Sophie struggling a little with opens and a split, Natasja staying clean with strike spare strike then two spares. Not as high this time with Sophie on 134 and Natasja with 181 and team game of 317.

Sophie bouncing back in game three with two spares and a turkey with Natasja going well with strike spare a double and a a spare. By the eighth both had a split but battling on. Sophie with a much improved 201 and Natasja with 190 for 391. Despite a split open at the beginning, Sophie flying later on with a turkey and Natasja going well with strikes spares and a double. Both on 147 in the seventh and Sophie catching another double in the ninth and Natasja also striking. Open in the tenth for Sophie and 200, Natasja with 206 for a team game of  406.

Game 5 and Sophie racing to spare and a fourbagger as Natasja hit two spares, a double and spare and both going well. A blip in the sixth frame as both opened then a split for Natasja in the seventh frame and a great game becoming a good game quickly. Natasja bouncing back with a strike in the eighth.  Sadly more opens in the ninth and a disappointing end to a bright start. Sophie with 189 and Natasja with 167 for 356. For context on lane conditions, our duo were playing the current leaders of the block Finland and scored more.

The final game and Sophie closed through five but one open for Natasja then a split open. Both fighting for every pin. Spares then both striking in the ninth frame. Another frustrating day on the lanes, moments where you thought things were opening up. The game ending with 367, 181 and 1100 for Sophie and Natasja striking out for 186 and 1151 with an overall of 2251.

Strikes needed in the final doubles squad and strikes we got in the first two frames from Jessica Sillis and Hayley Russell. A split open slowing Jess but Hayley hitting a turkey. Jessica back with a strike but Hayley chopping and coming back less than impressed. Jessica unlucky in two frames drilling the pocket for ten pin leaves and just the two opens so far. No strikes in three frames but all spares then a big cheer from Hayley as she struck in the seventh frame then Jessica following and striking in the eighth. Fist pump from Hayley as she doubled. Double from Jessica and turkey from Hayley and things turning around nicely now. Famous last words as Jessica split open in the tenth for 189. Hayley locked on now and added two more in the tenth for 244 and a team game of 433.

Game two and the strikes stopped but plenty spares being made and just one split and one open each over the first five frames. Hayley with a double in the sixth and Jessica with a split in the seventh but closed elsewhere. Jessica ending with 168, Hayley with 178 and a team game of 346. Game three and just one spilt open in the first nine frames and Jessica with a double early on. Jessica looking a bit more settled with 204 but a split a the end costing Hayley with 167 and team game of 371.

Game four and Jessica with two doubles in the game but a split open and open slowing progress. Hayley with two split opens in the fourth and fifth frame not helping the cause either. at the end it was Jessica added three more for five in a row for a well recovered 213 and 181 for Hayley and a game of 394.

So close to a breakthrough in every day so far at EWC and hopes in the last two games for bigger games to round out the doubles and get ready for the trios event. All closed in the first four frames, strikes and spares but no doubles yet. Then a run of single pin spares for both before the pair managed to strike, first hayley in the sixth then Jess in the seventh. Hayley making it a turkey in the eighth but spare in the ninth. Jessica hitting a turkey in the tenth frame for 203 as Hayley added a double for a fine 225 and game of 428.

Into the last game and a much better all round performance but still missing that little thing that changed good games into great games. All closed bar one open from Hayley over six frames. Jessica still closing frames to the eighth but Hayley catching some bad luck with a split in the eighth.  Jessica ending with 200 and 1177, Hayley with 169 and 1164 final team game of 369 and overall of 2341.

Trios

Tuesday morning saw the start of the Trios event and first up for England were Jessica Sillis, Hayley Russell and Natasja Ailes for the first block of three games. Splits for Jess but also with a double and Natasja splitting twice early on but Hayley hitting a turkey to calm the nerves. Jessica and Hayley adding two more doubles as Natasja sparing. Jessica ending  on 193, Natasja on 163 and Hayley with a fine 221 for a 577 opener.

Game two and Jessica closed through five but a split each for Natasja and Hayley who then doubed in the fifth frame. More strikes as Natasja hitting a double and Hayley a turkey and a better looking game all round. Jessica doubling and ending with 186, Natasja saving the game and hitting five in a row for 191, then Hayley with a fourbagger for 223 and a team game of 600 and into second place.

Game three and Natasja struggling a little with a split and open, Hayley with an open but Jessica closed through five frames and hitting a double. Hayley with a pocket 7-8 drew a shrug and really then spared it. Slower pace in this last game and time for some strikes to flow but split for Natasja not helping the cause. Jessica getting a double later on certainly did. Jess ending with 206, Natasja with 160 and Hayley with 163 for 533 and 1710 overall.

Our second trio were on the lanes at noon and Vicki catching the first double with Yola also hitting one in the first five frames and Sophie with two splits but sparing one. Vicki with a split and open but all closed elsewhere with Sophie and Yola. Sophie ending with 168 Yola with 191, Vicki with 167 and a team game of 533.

Game two and Sophie with a double to start and spares for Yola but an open for Vicki early on. Yola then grabbing a double and all looking better and more settled. A split for Yola slowing things in the sixth frame. Sophie ending with 183, an open costing Yola in th tenth and 168 and Vicki with 185 and a team game of 536.

Final game and five frames in Yola opened but caught a double, Sophie sparing but a spare spoiling things and Vicki strggling with a couple of opens. Frames were passing but no one able to get any runs going and strikes becoming hard to come by. Then all of a sudden Sophie and Vicki find a double near the end. Sophie adding two more strike for four in a row and 199 , Yola hitting a double in the tenth for 164 Vicki with 179, Final game of 542 and overall of 1604.

Wednesday was going to be a long day, 7am start GMT for Vicky, Sophie and Yola and a late afternoon Hayley, Jessica and Natasja back for games 4-6 of the trios. Decent start for Sophie and closed through five but opens for Vicki and Yola early on. Not a great game overall as Sophie hit 176, Yola with 158 and Vicki with 147 for 481.

Game 2 and yet again splits causing issues, Yola and Vicki with two each in the first six frames but Yola catching a double and Sophie all closed at lead off. Yola then hitting a fourbagger, sophie with a double and things looking a little better.  Sophie with 207, Yola with 201 and Vicki with 168 and team game of 576.

Final game and all closed in the first four frames then an open each for Sophie and Vicki. All three fighting for every pin but not aking any real inroads up the field. A turkey at the end for Sophie and 199 and 1132 as Yola added 170 and 1052. Vicki with a double at the end for 178 and 1024 final game of 547 and an overall of 3208

The late afternoon saw Hayley, Natasja and Jessica back on the odense lanes and still in with a shot. Averaging 190 over the first three and 199 being the 4th place average after two squads completed. Strikes would be needed and less splits. Strikes we were getting at last, Jessica and Natasja both with doubles and Hayley catching them either side of a spare and just the one split so far. Natasja making it five in a row and Jessica pegged by a spare then strike and Hayley also back on strike in the seventh. Just when things looked to be going our way, Jessica hit with a split open costing her pins. Then same for Natasja and ending the fine run but Hayley hitting a saving double. Jessica and Natasja striking in the ninth but Hayley run ending with a split open. Jessica ending with 199 Natasja with eight strikes in the game for 222 and Hayley with a double in the tenth for 198 and a game of 619. Some pins back on others but not enough yet.

Game five and the best start possible with all three striking in the first frame. Just one open then in the first four frames and Natasja had her weetabix hitting turkey and spare. Hayley back with a double in the sixth but strikes slowing down now for Jessica and Natasja. Hayley didn’t get the script though and hitting a turkey. Jessica back with a strike in the eighth, Natasja staying clean with spares and Hayley doing Hayley things and fourbagger with her eyes on still making the masters among other things.  Split for Jessica in the ninth sadly Strike for Natasja and Hayley hitting five in a row Jessica ending with a double and 169, Natasja hitting a turkey for a fine 231 and Hayley with a six pack at the end for a fantastic 246 and 646 game.

Up to fourth in the squad and still outside the pace for top four. Doable but it would take a lot of strikes. Three frames in and just one open but no doubles as yet. Still none by the fifth frame but spares being made. One in the sixth frame as Hayley began a run again. Jess then finding a double also in the eighth. Split for Jessica in the ninth not helping things and same for Hayley. Jessica ending with 190 and 1143, Natasja with 188 and 1155 and Hayley with 179 and 1233 Final game of 557 and Overall of 3531.

Team

First up on Thursday was squad 1 of the team event and Vicki Harman in the combined teams for England. Games of 191, 161 and 180 for 532 at the end.

Next up our ladies in Squad 2 and a good start, one or two splits and the odd error but strikes flowing, not least for Natasja opening with a turkey then Jessica hitting seven on the bounce. Lots of spares and a good score of 1030 posted at the end as Sophie hit 214, Yola with 196 and Natasja with 192, Jessica with a split in the tenth costing her more pins but still a fine 232 booked in and Hayley adding 196.

Game 2 and no one was safe from a split, not least Sophie and unfortunate to get two in a row early on. The odd strike but mostly spares in the first five frames. Hayley the first to double in the sixth frame. eight splits from five bowlers over nine frames told it’s own story but lots of spares and all fighting for every pin. Sophie hitting a turkey at the end for 178, Yola on 181, Natasja with a split in the tenth for  158, Jessica on 154 and Hayley with 190 for 861.

Game three and Sophie, Yola and Natasja all frustrated by an open early on but Natasja hitting a four bagger in reply, Jessica staying clean and Hayley hitting a double but then a split but roared back with another double then another split. Yet again England being frustrated with the Odense lane pattern and unable to really get back to the first games pace. Into the eighth and Yola, Natasja and Jessica all managing to strike and hopes for a good finish. It ended as Sophie with a fourbagger at the end for 189 and  581 Yola with 186 and 563, Natasja on 210 and 560, Jessica with 201 and 587, Hayley with 188  and 574 for 974 and 2865 overall.

Day 2 of the team event on Friday started with Teams outside the top 12 and combined team athletes. Vick Harman in for England and not the best of days for her with games of 153, 132 and 146 for an overall of 963.

Just after lunch time it was Squad B on the Odense lanes and our ladies sitting in 6th place overnight but a lot of work to do to catch a top four placing for the finals. Great start for Sophie with a Turkey and just two split opens from the other four over three frames, which while not great was better than some previous starts. By the five frame everyone but Yola who also hit a double in the sixth frame had split then Hayley with a fourbagger in the ninth frame easing things a little.  Sophie ending with 211 Yola with 193 Natasja with 157 Jessica with 184 and Hayley with 208 for a team game of 953.

Game five and Sophie and Hayley flying Sophie with two turkeys in eight frames and Hayley hitting a fourbagger. Yola, Natasja and Jessica all suffering an open but Jess also then hitting a double in the eighth frame. Sophie then going to a fourbagger in the ninth and Jessica hitting a turkey. Sophie finishing with seven in a row for a fantastic 269, Yola on 180, Natasja with 158, Jessica with five in a row at the end for 227 and Hayley with 210 for a great game of 1044.

With that fifth game we leapfrogged Denmark and into fourth place and a fight now between the two nations. Denmark 72 pins behind but opening the sixth game with four athletes on a double over two frames. Two opens and Natasja with a double for England over two frames. Natasja hitting a double in the third after her open and strikes in frame three for Sophie, Yola and Hayley but Denmark fighting back and three on a turkey over three frames. If we did not make it now it was not for want of trying and Yola with a turkey but a split open for Sophie slowing things. Denmark still going well and almost caught up the 72 pins. Yola making it four in a row and Jessica and Hayley with a double helping the cause. Denmark’s Megan Dicay on from seven and two players on runs of strikes looked ominous.  Denmark 100 pins ahead in this game with two frames to go and Megan Dicay on front eight. No strikes in the ninth frame was not going to help either but still fighting. A split in the tenth for Sophie ending with 161 and 1222, Yola with 200 and 1136, Natasja with 173 and 1048, Jessica with 190 and 1188 and Hayley with 204 and 1196, A final game of 928 and overall of 5790. Denmark taking the fourth sport sadly by 43 pins.

All Events

Great news as Jessica Sillis made the Masters in 22nd, Hayley ending in 33rd, Sophie in 38th, Natasja in 45th, Yola in 47th and Vicki in 81st.

Masters

After a fantastic all events final day, Jessica Sillis made the last 24 in 22nd and step 1 would see her up against Mika Guldbæk from the home nation of Denmark.

Game 1 and both athletes striking in the first then Mika first to blink and spare as Jessica hit an opening double then a spare as the Dane spared in the third. Jessica drilling the pocket but a ten pin spare in the fourth and Denmark striking. Both athletes sparing in the fifth frame and Jessica with a slight lead. Ten pin again for Jessica in the sixth and Mika striking. The Dane up first in the seventh and hitting a double as Jessica ten pin again. A baby split for Denmark in the eighth and a bigger split for Jessica and both athletes opening and Denmark 6 pins ahead with two frames to go. Split again for Jessica and Denmark sparing as we heading into the tenth frame. Jessica with an eight count sleep and taking 1 for 167, Mika with 195.

Game 2 and Jessica opening with a spare and matched by Denmark. Cheers from teammates as Jessica struck in the second and Mika a high hit eight spare. High hit eight then for Jessica in the third and the Dane striking. Both striking in the fourth then Jessica hitting a double in the fifth as the Dane could only spare. Jessica drilling the pocket for a ten pin in the sixth  and Denmark matching. Strike for Jessica and spare for Mika in the sevent and just ahead still. Jessica fighting back with a double in the eighth then a spare as Mika opened in the ninth. A spare and strike for 217 as Denmark split and 182 and this match all level.

Dream start in game three with a double and Denmark two split opens. Jessica then piling on the pressure with a turkey as Mika could only spare in the third. Front four for Jessica then five in a row and this was now all about Jess as Denmark spared in the fifth. Six in a row then the run ending with a tenpin in the seventh. The Dane now just going through the motions and could only watch in slow motion her removal from the masters. Jessica striking in the eighth and ninth and rocking a 279 pace and a statement game to the rest of the field. Ending with 255 – 175 and 2-1 win.

Step 2

Jessica rewarded with probably one of the toughest matches in step 2 against the number two seed Peppi Konsteri from Finland. To win the Masters this one would certainly be a right of passage and Jessica would need her striking shoes again. Peppi would be well aware of Jessica and the threat she posed and Jessica is pretty fearless and will take anyone on. This one could go to three again.

Game 1 and a split open for Finland as Jessica spared and then rolled a strike as Peppi split again and opened. Ahead and just needing the stay there, slowed then by a ten pin and spare in the third. Peppi back with a strike in the third frame then a double as Jessica also struck then doubled herself. Peppi going wide for a washout in the fifth and sparing it. Jessica leading by 17 pins hits a turkey with Peppi responding with a strike. Jess looking locked in for four in a row but the Finn hitting a double. Five in a row for Jessica, Peppi slowed by a ten pin and spare. Frame nine and Jessica through the face for a seven count and spare, Peppi with a strike. Strike in the tenth and one up Jessica with 237 to Peppi’s well recovered 209.

Split and open greeted Jessica in the first frame of the second game as Finland struck then doubled as Jessica slowed by a nine pin spare. The finish fightback as predicted was on or was it as Peppi went wide for a six count and spare in the third but Jessica another single pin spare. Strikes each for both athletes in the fourth frame then Jessica hitting a double and Peppi matching her. Turkey for Jessica and the Finn needing to stay with her but coming up high for a split and open. Big chance to put this to bed in two games and send shocks through the field. High hit eight and spare in the seventh for Jessica and strike for Peppi who had not yet given up. Strike for Jessica in the eighth and high hit eight spare for Finland and you could see from the Finn she was proper worried now. Double from Jess this one looked almost done despite Peppi striking in the ninth. Jessica going though 214-182 and 2-0.

Final Step 3

All hard matches from here on in and the quarterfinal match against another home favourite Karen Kærgaard Nielsen the 5th seed left hander from Denmark.

Both athletes opening with a spare and a strike and nothing to separate over two frames. Jessica making it a double then missing a ten pin for the first open of the game as the Dane spared and struck. Double for Denmark as Jessica spared in the fifth frame and behind. Back with a strike in the sixth as Karen left a seven pin and spared. Jessica drilling the pocket again for a nine count spare and matched by Karen. Behind by eleven pins Jess still unable to carry the ten pin in the eighth and the Dane striking. Denmark doubling in the ninth as Jessica spared and time to regroup for game two and one down. Karen with 226 and Jessica with 193.

Game two and a seven chop for Jessica in the first frame and on the back foot early on as the Dane spared. Both sparing in the second frame. Denmark then striking as Jessica spared in the third. Double for Denmark in the fourth and Jessica responding with a strike. With Karen going high and leaving pins Jessica stepped up a booked in an important double in the fifth frame. The run ending with an eight count as Denmark back striking then a spare as Jessica struck and Denmark spared. Split for Karen in the eighth and a big chance for Jessica who hit a double. Turkey for Jessica in the ninth and five count from Denmark and rattled but spares. Great job the cry from team mates as Jessica struck again to send this to three games. Jessica with 224 and Karen with 189. All level at 1-1.

Into the last game and strike for Denmark and spare fr England in the first frame. Ten pin bothering Jessica again the the second frame as the Dane struck again for a double. Both then striking in the third frame. Jessica high in the fourth for an eight spare and Karen carring a split to a single pin and spared. Into the fifth frame and fighting with a strike as the Dane with a six split and the door opening. Strike for Denmark in the sixth and spare for England and just four pins in it in favour of Denmark. Spares each in the seventh frame then Jessica striking in the eighth and Denmark matching. Jessica with a massive double in the ninth to put pressure on the Dane but Karen held firm to record a double also. Five pins behind Jessica drills the pocket for a turkey, Karen going wide and leaving a six count. Jessica leaving a single pin and sparing for 209 and Jessica through with 217.

Step 4 – Semi Final

Probably the toughest match so far face Jessica in the Semi finals against Sweden’s superstar two hander Nora Johansson who was taken to three games also in her previous two matches and Jessica with high hopes to improve on the Bronze medal already gained.

Game 1 and Nora opening with two splits and opens and a strike as Jessica Struck, split opened and spared. Split for Jessica in the fourth and single pin miss for Nora.  Sweden three opens in four frames but somehow only just behind. Jessica with a spare in the fifth as Nora spared also and five pins behind Jessica. Strike in the sixth for Jessica as Nora hit light and chopped. Big chance to put some daylight between them and Jessica light hits an eight count spare in the seventh. Sweden supporters coming alive as Nora struck. Jessica striking in the eighth and Nora with a spare and trailing by 20. Both failing to strike in the ninth and a spare each. Jessica just needing a mark to see this first game home. A spare enough for 170 against 148 and 1-0 up in a low scoring opener.

Game two and Nora looking different things time round and smashing in a strike in the first frame as Jessica spared twice with Nora also sparing in the second frame. Both athletes striking in the third then doubling in the fourth and Sweden 1 pin up. Swishing strike and turkey for Jessica as Nora split and opened after a high hit. Advantage England and Nora’s shoulders and head done leaving the lane. Jessica with a ten pin leave in the sixth and Nora also with a single pin spare but running out of frames to catch Jessica.  Still enough time though with four frames to go. The swede high again for a spare and Jessica striking and fans starting to believe we could hit the final here. Frame eight and Jessica unable to double and Nora with a sniff of saving this struck but then failed to double to claw pins back as Jessica spared in the ninth. Jessica 23 pins up and just a mark to see this one out advanced 2-0 216- 204.

Step 5 – Final

Well she only went and made the final, looking at her opponents, we could argue Jessica had the hardest progression today against some top athletes. The final was going to be no different and a match against Germany’s experienced Laura Beuthner who had won all three of her matches 2-0 today.

Two spares to open with for Jessica as Laura struck and spared. Both athletes striking in the third frame. Jessica hitting the first double in the fourth as Laura could only spare. It was a four bagger by frame six for Jessica as the German could only hit spares then an open and a commanding lead for our young superstar. Five in a row then a split but this one going our way. Jessica with a strike in the ninth as Laura spared. 1-0 205 vs 189.

Game 2 and both opening with a spare. Jessica first to strike in the second frame as Laura matched. Jessica then the first to double and Laura going wide and leaving a seven pin and spare. Advantage England but a light hit single pin spare in the fourth slowing progress and Germany striking to cheers from the German fans. Laura then hitting a double as Jessica opened. Laura flying now with a turkey in the sixth frame and pulling away. Jessica back with a strike in the seventh and some 25 pins down with three frames to go. Five bagger for Germany, double for England in frame eight. Jessica then with a turkey as Laura faltered with a spare.  Jessica hitting a fourbagger and Laura striking. What a match as Jessica does her job and puts pressure on the German with five in a row. Seven pin leave for Laura and a strike for Jessica 238 to Germany and 235 to England and 1-1.

The final game of a long week for all and it came down to this one to decide the Masters Gold winner. Jessica with a strike and Laura with a spare to start. Jess not looking to worry herself too long in this game hitting another two strikes for front three as Laura could only spare. Dropping one inside a little for an eight count in the fourth as Laura struck. Jessica back on strike in the fifth frame as Germany could only spare and a lead building now. Double in the sixth frame and pressure on the German to reply and she did with a strike.  Jessica 24 pins up in the sixth and hitting a turkey. Pressure again for Laura and a seven pin lead will have had her brain saying, looks like silver for me. Jessica rocking a 278 pace striking again for a fourbagger. Two frames to go and our athletes and fans getting excited at the back of the lanes and those at home watching too of course. Six pack for Jessica and Spandau Ballet beginning to play in the writers head. The run ending with a single pin in the tenth and the tears beginning to flow, a spare and 2-1 win  253-203 and Gold for Jessica Sillis.
