BTBA Chairman Geoff Brown once again sends a dispatch on our amazing sport, this time he was not only bowling in the 8th Senior National Championships, but was also ’..the man with the lens’ and the right-hand of the Tournament Manager!
Geoff writes:
“
I had the pleasure of competing in, and running the Senior National Championships along side our Tournament Secretary Mr Paul Loberman, who must take a great deal of credit for what turned out to be a very successful championships.
167 competitors took to the lanes in our biggest BTBA Senior championship to date.
Thanks to Pete Terry and the fantastic staff at Disco Bowl Acocks Green for hosting the tournament and looking after us over the two weekends.
Thanks also to Jack and Alex at Bowling Vision for their generous sponsorship of the event.
We bowled on a Brunswick conversion of Beaten Path, which proved to be quite challenging for some and very scoreable for others. Superb bowling from Steve Thornton saw him set new records in both the Open Division A All Events and Singles with scores of 2223 & 793! (se table below…)
The record in the Open Super Seniors Team also fell to “Super Golden Oldies” Mssrs. Johnson, Baker, Wills and myself, with a score of 2439 – although that has not yet been reflected in the table above.
We had three 300 games bowled during the tournament. Colin Grose got the ball rolling on Sunday of the first weekend with 300 in the last game of his singles block. This was closely followed by Steven Flynn with his 300 coming in the first game of his team event. He went on to complete a fantastic 813 series helping his team “On the Ball Pro Shop” to the Open Division A title.
We had to wait until the final day for the third 300 when Chris West had his perfecto on the second game of his doubles set. Well done to all three bowlers.
A special mention goes out to Marsha Dalley winning both the Women’s Division A All Events and the Division A Singles, both by over 100 pins. An outstanding performance!
All the result are on the BTBA events page but are provisional at the moment while Paul ratifies the results. I will however congratulate all the winners and thank everybody for taking part in a very successful and enjoyable championships.
