It was a glorious gold medal for England’s Sophie Thompson, Lucy Williams, Elyse Giddens and Issy Allen in the Girls Team Event at the European Youth Championships in Aalborg yesterday.
The English quartet finished on a total of 4793 (199.7 average) to finish in second place behind Denmark in qualifying. Led by Sophie with a stunning 255, they defeated Sweden 844-806 in the semi-finals, to meet Czech Republic in the final.
The battle for gold came down to a tense tenth frame which saw the English team run out winners 736-716. It is the first time in the history of the European Youth Championships that the gold medal has been retained in the Girls Team Event.
