Share your Story – Brett Beeley – Lifelong Bowler, Team GB Competitor & Transplant Games Champion

Today we shine a spotlight on Brett Beeley, a dedicated tenpin bowler whose lifelong passion for the sport has taken him from junior leagues to representing Team GB on international stages, including the prestigious Transplant Games.

Brett has been immersed in bowling since the age of five, inspired by his father, Mick, who has been a cornerstone of the UK bowling community for over five decades. Mick, now 69, continues to run Kimberworth YBC (formerly Firth Park YBC), where he has led for 30 years and remains an integral figure in junior tournaments alongside colleagues Brian and Gill Parker. Brett credits his father not only as the reason he first stepped onto the lanes, but as his idol, hero, and best friend.

One of the defining chapters in Brett’s journey has been his ability to return to competitive form after a liver transplant, a challenge that has strengthened both his resilience and his appreciation for the sport. His determination has paid off: Brett has won medals at every Transplant Games he has participated in, including the British, European and World Games.

Among his proudest achievements is representing Junior Team England at the 2002 Triple Crown, and winning the North of England Junior Fives with a home‑grown team from his YBC overcoming several cherry‑picked squads to claim victory.

But the memory that stands above all others came at last year’s World Games in Germany, where all of Team GB’s mixed doubles competitors shared a single pair of lanes. Brett describes the energy, camaraderie, and joy of that moment as “something I’ve never been part of before… absolutely incredible.”

Brett’s love for the sport is deeply personal; through bowling he has met lifelong friends and even his wife, Chloe. Whether competing or cheering from the sidelines, family remains at the heart of his journey. Although he doesn’t follow any specific pre‑competition rituals, he likes to have someone nearby, often Chloe or his dad to bounce ideas off or simply help him stay relaxed between shots.

When it comes to professional inspirations, Brett names Andrew Anderson and EJ Tackett among his favourites, but his top pick is fellow Brit Verity Crawley, admiring her skill, humility and approachable nature.

Brett currently favours the Purple Hammer as his go‑to ball, though the Hy‑Road holds a special place in his past arsenal. If he could train anywhere in the world, he would choose the renowned Kegel Training Center or the National Bowling Stadium in the USA. And if given a day to try a different sport, he’d opt for the excitement of speedway or the passion of football.

Brett also shares an important message for anyone considering taking up bowling:
“Have a go! People of all ages and abilities bowl. It’s an amazing social event where you can have fun, enjoy yourself, and make friends along the way.”

Brett continues to embody the spirit of perseverance, positivity and community, values that make him not only an exceptional athlete, but an inspiring ambassador for the sport.
