Event 3 of Period A of Youth Team England Qualifying 2023 took place on June 3 with the Youth Team England Doubles at GOBowling Dunstable

Yesterday saw 18 teams take to the lanes at GOBowling Dunstable for a new Doubles event run by Team England.
Squad A saw 5 teams roll off in qualifying – 6 games traditional Doubles – with equal chance to qualify in the scratch section or the handicap section.
Bowling on two patterns, 41ft on the left lanes and 47ft on the right lanes ( both around 24.5 ml and (outside) ratios in the challenge category) tested the players well. Despite a fee 200s in the first two games, game 3 caught mist out except for James Hunter who had an excellent 258.
At the end of this squad the scratch leaders were Alfie Humphrey and Kallum Peach with 2190.
With handicap the leaders were Ethan Quinney and Aston Thompson with 2809.
Squad B had 13 teams (it was full until a late withdrawal thanks to a broken arm!) and this block saw some better scoring with more players. Frank Stephenson and Yola Stephenson made the early running with 419 and 443 scratch. Dylan Johnson and Abi Jagger had a good start as did the Taylor brothers from Lewisham who were bowling well above their tour averages.
Callam Hall finished with a nice 246 but it wasn’t enough for him and partner Ben Marston to qualify. The top 2 scratch teams and went straight to the Semis and then the top 2 Handicap scorers. The next 3 scratch teams them went to the one-game Eliminator round as do the next 3 Handicap scorers.

Congratulation to all and thanks to Dunstable for hosting, and in particular head tech James for machines that functioned very well all day (except for a broken sweep tight at the end which was fixed very quickly) and timely lane dressing. Andy Penny and Russ Semple for your help during the day. Patents for bringing your players and most importantly all the bowlers who performed and behaved like athletes.

Event 2 of Period A of Youth Team England Qualifying 2023 was completed at the 2023 British Youth Team Open on 18 & 19 March at Mansfield Superbowl.
“Positions are based on the cumulative Ranking Score. The Ranking Score is calculated in each event against the mean average for your group (not everyone in the event).
