County Trials

We are pleased to publish the results of the 2023 Inter County Championships Trials / Qualifiers / Roll Offs as received at March 17 2023.

All published results are also archived in the BTBA Library under Domestic & International Results.

Bedfordshire

Brett Armer rolled 1377 to lead the Bedfordshire men over Cameron Faye 2nd with 1318 and Jordan Hart 3rd with 1309.  For the women Jackie Wyatt was top with 1257 over Joanne Green 2nd with 1123 and Alison Taylor 3rd with 1121.

Buckinghamshire

Lee Miller led the Buckinghamshire Men Adults Roll Offs with 1494 over Nick Kowalski 2nd with 1372 and Gary Robertson 3rd with 1304.  Alistair MacPherson led the Senior Men with 1360 over Matthew Trotter 2nd with 1252 and Richard Beck 3rd 1228.

Essex

Adults: Ben Harvey led the men’s Trials with 1,367 over Frank Stephenson 2nd with 1,343 and Jamie Alder 3rd with 1,313.  Sophie Thompson led the adult women with 1,198 over Yolanta Stephenson 2nd 1,175 and Tracy Wallace 3rd 1,060.

Seniors: For the seniors Carl Vanderhook was top senior man with 1,246 over Mark Thompson 2nd 1,236 and David Coote 3rd 1,209 whilst the senior women was led by Linda Pray with 1,044 over Sue Morden 2nd 968 and Sue Portsmouth 3rd 911.

Hampshire

Adults: Hayley Russell led the Hampshire adult women with 1103 over Dawn Mann 2nd with 951 and Debbie Law 3rd  with 859.  Lewis Johnson finished top of the men with 1200 over Dom Buckley 2nd with 1184 and Jason Trulocke 3rd with 1102.

Seniors: Kim Aslett was top Senior Woman with 886 over Sandra Simmonds 2nd with 869 and Debbie Law 3rd with her 859.  Alan Meades was top senior man with 1028 over Bob Strong a close second 2nd with 1026 and Jim Allan 3rd with 1017.

Hertfordshire

Jon Langridge led the Hertfordshire men with 1391 over Paul Loberman 2nd with 1312 and Mark Secker 3rd with 1297.  Paul’s 1312 put him top of the senior men over Mark Secker 2nd with 1297 and Richard Lewis 3rd with 1259

Kent

Youth, Adults & Seniors – report courtesy of Chris Skudder

The KTBA held their 2023 trials on 3 dates, 5th Feb, 9th Feb and 5th March at Bugsys in Cliftonville this year, with a total of 33 bowlers competing(20 down on 2022).

After day 1 with 9 bowlers taking part, Steve Carnall led the Senior division with Kevin Franks leading the Adults and Jack Welch the Under 22’s. Denise Dyke bowled in the Senior Ladies division. Day 2, with 9 bowlers again taking part John Hinch was top Senior with Nathan Smith top Adult and Under 22 bowler, Steve Carnall still leading the Seniors with Nathan Smith taking over the top Adult and Under 22 position.

Jan Hodge joined Denise in the Seniors and took over top place. On the 3rd day 15 bowlers took to the lanes but could not shift the leaders from their top positions. In total we had 6 Senior Ladies, 10 Senior Men, 9 Adult Men and 8 in the Under 22’s and some qualified in 2 divisions.

Unfortunately although we have 2 top bowlers in the Adult Ladies division in Lorna Scott and Frankie Plewis we couldn’t make up a team.

Norfolk & Suffolk County

Adults: Gaye McCully headed the adult women’s qualifying with 936 over Steph Spalding 2nd with 895 and Steph Goldspink 3rd with 833.  Leon Devlin topped the adult me’s with 1139 over youth athlete Kallum Peach 2nd with 1001 and Lee Wills 3rd with 951.

Seniors: Gaye MCCully’s 936 also placed her top of the  Senior Women over Julie MacInnes 2nd with 828 and Tracy van Dyk 3rd with 729.  Mark Scott bowled 998 to head the Senior Men over Kim Johnson 2nd with 960 and Jon Greengrass 3rd with 932.

Oxfordshire

Adults: Carissa Kepke was top qualifier for the adult women with 1115 over Susan Mills 2nd with 1034 and Mary Mault 3rd with 1011.  Top for the adult men was Gary Baker with 2490 (12 games) over Haral Grau 2nd with 2382 and Vincenzo Orlando 3rd with 282.

Seniors: Gary Baker’s 2490 and Harald Grau’s 2383 kept them both in 1 – 2 position for the seniors, but it was Peter Myles who took 3rd with 2278.

Surrey

Youth: Ben Robinson topped the U22’s with 1269 over Daniel Wall 2nd with 1033 and Ava Andrade 3rd with 1012.

Adults: Jon Naylor led the men with 1362 over Neil Highgate 2nd with 1308 and Andrew Tapping 3rd with 1280.  Laura Ivory led the women with 1350 over Holly Towersey 2nd with 1207 and Laura Marcham 3rd with 1193.

Seniors: Neil Highgate was top senior man with his 1308 over Mark Cox 2nd with 1304 and Andrew Tapping 3rd with his 1280.  Kimberley Oakley was top senior woman with 601 over Angela Steward 2nd with 497 and Anne Mitchell-Brown 3rd with 489.  The senior women bowled 3 games.

Warwickshire

Youth: Ethan Quinney bowled 953 to head the boys U16’s over Luke Ison 2nd with 890 and Oliver Lawrence 3rd with 766.  The U22’s saw Liam Parr head the mens with 1301 over Thomas Devey 2nd with 1168 and Zach Greaves 3rd with 953.  Only 2 U16 girls this year, led by Tula-May Henderson with 895 over Olivia Stanton 2nd with 684, and four competing U22 women, lead by Abigail Anderson-Stanton with 916, Caitlin Tristram-Devey 3rd with 789.  Both Tula-May and Olivia also bowled in the U22’s, and would take places 2 and 4 respectively.

Adults: Sean MacFarlane  headed the 37 men with 1382 over Jay Goodwin 2nd with 1328 and Same Rose 4rd wih 1312.  Of the 14 women who scored, Stacey Gould was top with 1310 over Maria Gilderoy 2nd with 1154 and Aimee-Elizabeth Prosser 3rd with 1046.

Seniors: 17 senior men bowled, and were headed by Greg Turvey with 1264 over Steve Winterburn 2nd with1217 and Lawrence Ellis 3rd with 1197.  Amongst the 5 senior women Maggie English was top with 939 over Tina Taylor 2nd with 923 and Sandra Boswell 3rd with 882.
