The purpose of this tournament is to adopt a tennis draw and seeding approach to the Compass Matchplay Tournament.
What is a compass draw?
This draw received its name due to the bracket sheet being marked by points found on the compass (North, South, East, West, Northwest, Northeast, Southwest, Southeast). This style of draw works best with tournaments that consist of 16 players. Note: The winner always advances in the draw they are currently in.
First Round
All players will begin in the centre of the bracket based on their seeding. They will bowl one game. When a player loses, they will advance to the West (left side) of the bracket, whereas the winning player will advance to the East (right side) of the bracket. Bowlers will be seeded by their initial entering averages. With 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4 etc.
Second Round
Each bowler will bowl one game, the player that loses on the East (right) side of the bracket will advance on the North (up) and the winner advances to the East (right) once again. The player that loses on the West (left) side of the bracket will advance South (down) and the winner advances to the West (left) once again. The winning player will continue to advance to both the East (right) and the West (left).
Third Round
Each bowler will bowl one game. the losing player on the West (left) side will advance on the Southwest (down and left). The losing player on the East (right) will move Northeast (up and right). The losing player of the South (straight down) will advance to Southeast (down and right) and the losing player of the North (straight up) will advance Northwest (up and left).
Fourth Round
Each bowler will bowl one game. The winner of each direction will be declared at this point.
Fifth Round
All bowlers will be seeded, 1-16 based on their performance in rounds 1-4. Seeding will be based on total handicap score from rounds 1 to 4. Seed 1 will be placed against Seed 16, 2vs 15 and so on. Each bowler will bowl 3 games. The winner of the 3 games will proceed to the East as before, and the losing players will proceed to the West. At this point those on the East bracket are competing for 1st and 2nd place in the tournament. Those on the East bracket are competing for 3rd and 4th place in the tournament.
Sixth Round
Scores will not carry over. All bowlers will bowl 1 game. From now on we are losing bowlers. Bowlers with highest handicap game will win. Losing players in either East or West brackets will now leave the tournament. Winners proceed to the 7th Round.
Seventh Round
