Current Youth Team England Squad

Updated squad lists with all the new members and tenure dates

Team England Youth Qualification Process UPDATED March 21st 2024

We’d like to thank all Youth athletes and parents for their patience while we take the time to discuss and review the Youth Qualification Process, there was a lot of discussion required and cases to be settled and with thanks to the BTBA Executive Council we can proceed. We can now update you on the amendments to the Youth

Qualification Process as follows:

The criteria for the events needed to be completed remain unchanged. The 7 events previously stated from the YBE calendar still need participation and completion from any athlete wishing to obtain ranking points. However there is now no longer any requirement for an athlete to register for the process this year or for any payment to be made upfront for qualification. All athletes that are in the relevant age categories as set out before U16 & U19 playing the qualifying events will be obtain ranking points.

A ranking list will soon be published to show the standings from the first 2 events (SOE & BYTO). At the end of the year, those that have qualified (top 6 male & top 6 female in each age category) will be invited to join the Team England squad for 2025. If an athlete from Period A qualification last year who is already in the Team England squad finishes in the top 6 then this place does not pass to anyone ranked below 6th.

Thanks again for all the patience. The comments on this thread and future information threads will be turned off so please if you have any questions feel free to send them to teamengland@btba.org.uk where we will respond to you directly.

Team England Committee

The Youth U16 and U19 (15 and under or 18 under by 1st September 2025, i.e. has not reached 16 or 19 by 1st September 2025)

We understand that the previous Youth Team England Manager ran the squads so that once an athlete qualified you were in the squad until reaching a particular age however this is it not the way Youth Team England will run going forwards. All current Youth Team England squad members (including those that qualified through period B) will have active tenures until 31st December 2024. To qualify for Youth Team England Squad 2025 , athletes will have to qualify as per the 2024 Qualification pack.

Team England Qualification Process for 2025 will run from 13th January 2024 until 11th November 2024. The Qualification Process will be based on specific tournaments from the YBE Endeavour and Progression Tours.

Cost
£150. This is separate to the entry fees for the YBE Endeavour and Progression events.
The £150 must be paid by 10th March 2024 (due to the delay in publishing this pack we have allowed this extra time and therefore any payments received by this date will also allow for the results posted from South of England to also be used for ranking ) or one week prior to first event the athlete wants the points to count from (for example, if an athlete wishes to use South West Doubles then payment will need to be made by 31st March 2024). The latest date to pay will be 9th June 2024 as an athlete will need to complete all four remaining YBE events to be ranked). Any results posted prior to £150 payment received will not be used for Team England ranking (bar the exception written above for South of England).

Qualification rules

Each athlete will need to:
●Pay the Qualification Entry fee £150 by the Sunday before the first event the athlete wishes to count, latest 9th June 2024 (unless taking advantage of the exception written above)
●Play at least 4 of the 7 YBE tour events (in full) from those stated above.
●Play the YBE Nationals Championships (participation is required – no minimum events, but All Events (9 games) will need to be completed to obtain points from this
tournament).
●Be an active competitive member of the BTBA.

Scoring
●The Qualification Process will be based on a ranking system with points awarded for each event series. YBE National Championships points will only be awarded to those athletes
that complete All Events (9 games) and the points will be calculated after Stroud Accumulator so that only athletes who have participated in enough Tour Events (4 of 7) get awarded points.
●Individual points will be awarded after all bowlers (registered & paid prior to the event) have completed an event as follows: 1st 50pts, 2nd 35pts, 3rd 25 pts, 4th 20 pts, 5th 17 pts, 6th 15pts dropping to 1pt for 20th place.
●No points will be awarded for scores falling outside the Top 20 each time. No points will be awarded for an event for those athletes that have not registered and paid prior to the event.
●An athlete’s best 4 out 7 points results will be used to determine the ranking table.
●A possible maximum of 50 points are available for each event and 200 in total.

Qualification
●The top 6 athletes in the U16 category and the top 6 athletes in the U19 category for both males and females (24 athletes in total) based on total points across 4 of 7 events will qualify to be a part of the Team England squad from 01/01/2025 until 31/12/2025.
●Athletes will be ranked in the age category that athletes will be eligible to compete in during the year of tenure.
●Existing Team England squad members who requalify this year will have their tenure extended in line with the above.
●Existing Team England squad members who DO NOT requalify will continue in the squad until the end of their original tenure.
●In the event of a tie of points, the highest pinfall over the athletes’ best 4 events will be placed in the higher position.

Current Events 2025
Youth are playing for a chance to represent Team England in 2025:
●European Youth Championships 2025: 12th – 21st April (Samsun, Turkey)
●Youth Triple Crown 2025: (Dates TBC and Centre TBC, England)
There will potentially be other events that we will consider entering teams into, including World events as they are announced.

If any event should arise requiring a different age restricted category then the relevant selections will be made accordingly.

Funding
Currently there is only partial funding available for Team England, therefore the athletes will need to consider the financial commitment when registering for Team England. What will you need to consider but not limited to:
●Squad training sessions (3-4 throughout the year)
●Championship contributions
●Equipment

The Team England committee will work with the BTBA and others to attain sponsorships which will be used to help towards funding teams for these events and squad training sessions. It will also be the responsibility of the athletes to work with Team England and the BTBA, looking for sponsorship and funding opportunities.
