Pete Stevenson has been confirmed as the winner of the Nottinghamshire Open 2026 after a thrilling conclusion at Mansfield Superbowl.
Stevenson produced a superb 289 in the final game to finish on 2,977, edging Callum Birtles by just 11 pins. It was a decisive finish from Pete, who averaged 229.0 scratch across his 13 games and saved his best score of the day for the moment that mattered most.
The result was confirmed following a post-event check of the averages, which found that Callum had accidentally submitted his second-highest league average rather than his highest. His handicap and scores were recalculated using the correct average, moving Stevenson into first place. Callum finished runner-up on 2,966, a further 31 pins ahead of Darren Smith in third.
The tournament brought together 37 bowlers for a day of competitive bowling in a lively and friendly atmosphere. After the opening six games, the leading 18 progressed to Round 2. The field was then reduced to 12 and finally to six, with pinfall and handicap carried forward throughout.There were impressive performances across the field. Stevenson opened with a consistent 1,393 scratch six-game block, while Katie Jowsey rolled a 280 and Tom Langley fired a 279 during the opening round. The closing stages remained close, but Pete’s final-game 289 ultimately settled the title.
