Meet Lewis Thompson from Excel Sunderland YBC

Thanks to Youth Bowling’s Tracy Robertson we start a new series meeting some of our awesome youth bowlers. First up we ask Lewis Thompson of Excel YBC Sunderland a few questions. Lewis is very young so his answers were recorded thanks to dad Joel.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your sport so far, and how did you overcome it?

Biggest challenge – adapting to a new ball weight. And overcome it
by being patient and keep practicing

Can you tell me about a time you made a mistake or had a tough loss? What did you learn from it?

A bad league week – learned to understand the importance of practice
and keeping calm

How do you handle the pressure or nerves before a big match or competition?

Focus and try to keep calm and remember to enjoy the occasion

What is the main reason you love bowling?

I love bowling for no other reason than I just love to bowl

What drives you to get up, train, and put in the work on days when you don’t feel like it?

For the love of bowling, and enjoyment of seeing friends within the
club, and to try and progress up the leaderboard

What are your short-term goals for this season, and where do you see yourself in your sport in the next few years?

Better spare conversion and better results short term – long term
learning to hook and use and understand reactive balls

How would your teammates or coaches describe you?

Energetic, and kind

Aside from bowling, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Gaming and watching TV

Is there an athlete, coach, or mentor you look up to, and why?

Lewis – because he’s nice

What advice would you give to another young person who wants to start tenpin bowling?

Enjoy it, and be patient
