Senior Triple Crown 2024

April 24-28th 2024 in Ayr, Scotland

The Senior Triple Crown 2024 will be held L.A Bowl, Ayr from 24th April until 28th of April 2024 and welcomes Iceland for the very first time. They will join hosts Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland in a five nations championship.

In 2023 Senior Team England won a  total of 33 medals – 15 Gold, 11 Silver and 7 Bronze and the all important Ladies, Men’s and Overall shields. Iceland arrive in 2024 and Scotland at home will make this very competitive and then there are strong sides from Ireland and Wales in this five nations championship.

England field another experienced senior squad all looking to match and improve on the 2023 haul in Bromborough.

Men’s Singles

Singles got underway on Thursday morning and first up were the men for a four game shootout to a medal. Blasting his way to Gold was England’s Steve Thornton with games of 218,249,228 and 253 for a massive 948. Silver went to Matt Trotter with 905 and Iceland taking Bronze.

Elsewhere, Kevin Pilley hit 875, Paul Loberman 828, Kim Johnson 800 and Geoff Brown with 717.

Ladies Singles

Next up in the afternoon were the ladies for four games and dancing in Ireland tonight as the took a 1-2-3 with Theresa Watts taking Gold with 800 followed by Lorraine Keane with Silver and 784 then Elaine Laylor with 782 for Bronze. No medals this time for England with Kim Oakley in 5th with 778, Diane Johnson in 6th with 765, Sandra Simmonds in 11th with 710, Marsha Dalley in 12th with 700, Dee Parker in 13th with 697 and Teresa McCarthy in 17th with 664.

Ladies Doubles

Friday saw the start of the doubles and first up were the ladies. Taking a big lead were England’s Diane Johnson (683) and Kim Oakley with a fine 935 for 1618. Kim rolling games of 204,216,257 and 258. Second were Marsha Dalley (746) and Sandra Simmonds (748) with 1494. Squad two saw Dee Parker and Teresa McCarthy complete the doubles ending in 8th with 1382 and 634 from Dee and 748 from Teresa. Only Iceland stopped a 1-2 as we claimed Gold and Bronze.

Men’s Doubles

Kim Johnson and Geoff Brown were up first for the men in doubles and leading the way with 1757 and 874 from Geoff and 883 from Kim for a total of 1757.

Going past them in the next block were Kevin Pilley and Matt Trotter with 1860 and a fine 945 from Kevin and 915 from Matt. Taking Silver were Paul Loberman (882) and Steve Thornton (937) with 1819. Bronze for Kim and Geoff and a 1-2-3.

Men’s Trios

England’s Kevin Pilley 952, Matt Trotter 931 and Steve Thornton 924 fired 2807 to claim Gold in the Trios. Scotland taking Silver with 2537 and England’s Paul Loberman 876, Geoff Brown 757 and Kim Johnson 888 rolled 2486 for Bronze.

Ladies Trios

More medals for England at STC24 and it’s Silver and Gold this time as Marsha Dalley 828, Dee Parker 666 and Teresa McCarthy 714 shoot 2208 for Silver and Diane Johnson 663, Sandra Simmonds 683 and Kim Oakley 792 hit 2138 for Bronze. Ireland take Gold with 2288.

Mixed Doubles and Team

A clean sweep and Gold in Mixed Doubles, Ladies and Men’s Teams on Sunday as Dee Parker and Geoff Brown were first to record another win, Dee with 751 and Geoff with 874 and total of 1625.

In the team event, The Men were flying from the start with 1047 then 1082, 1067 and ending with a fine 1137 for 4333. Wales in Silver and Scotland in Bronze.

The ladies were equally strong starters with 994 then 915, 984 and 917 at the end for 3810, Ireland in Silver and Wales in Bronze.

All Events

Double Gold for England and Kim Oakley and Steve Thornton claimed the All events titles. It was also a 1-2-3 in the mens event as Kevin Pilley took Silver and Matt Trotter taking the Bronze.

Masters

England would send eight in the the Masters as Kim Oakley, Marsha Dalley and Sandra Simmonds advanced in the top 8 of the ladies and Steve Thornton, Kevin Pilley, Matt Trotter, Paul Loberman and Kim Johnson advanced for the men to the seven gave round robin.

At the end it was more Gold and Silver in the pot as Marsha Dalley and Matt Trotter struck Gold and Kevin Pilley and Kim Oakley claimed Silver.
