BTBA announces new Regional Officer (South)

The BTBA are delighted to welcome Matt Smith as our new Regional Officer (South), starting 1st October 2021.

“Matt has been involved with bowling for 25 years after joining an after school league at his local center, Lewisham.

“After discovering his love of the sport he joined an adult league with his dad, Will.   Matt was appointed as Secretary of the Nightstrikers league in 2003 until 2005.  Matt has been a committee member of the league since and was elected as President in 2016.

“Matt always knew that bowling would play a big part of his life and was proved right, when in April 2005 he met his long suffering partner Sam at Bexleyheath Bowl.  In 2011 Matt and Sam welcomed a daughter, Evie who loves bowling and is a member of Lewisham YBC herself.  Sam also coaches at the YBC and Matt thoroughly supports and encourages the children in the YBC.  Matt is dedicated to the future of our sport which rests with the YBCs.

“Matt was encouraged by the late Ed Lane to enter into the world of tenpin politics by joining the London County Committee in 2016 and was elected to Chair the following year, a role Matt has held ever since.   During his time with London, Matt has worked hard to promote and encourage bowler’s to the sport and hopes to continue to do so.

“Over the years Matt has enjoyed many conversations and guidance from founding BTBA members such as the late Teddy Shrimpton and John Cudmore and learned a lot from them about the history and values of our sport.   Matt hopes to draw on this guidance together with a passion for forward thinking and creative ideas for the progression and growth of our great sport.

Thank you,
