COVID-19 Return to bowling Update No. 1

Following the Government’s announcement that bowling centres can now open on 1st August, I wanted to draw your attention to a couple of the clauses that have been approved.

Attached is an extract of the document that has been approved and within that are certain things which you need to be made aware of.  The Tenpin Bowling Proprietor’s Association have confirmed that the most important and vital thing that allowed our centres to reopen is that only members of the same family group/bubble can bowl together on the same lane, up to a maximum of 6 people.  Every other lane will be closed off and there is to be no back to back seating.

For us, as a sport, this means that for the time being Leagues and Tournaments cannot recommence, and we will not sanction any league that insists on restarting as this is against the protocols approved by Government.  We were hopeful that we could recommence leagues in September, but this is, unfortunately, looking very unlikely at this stage.

I cannot stress enough how important it is that we comply with the conditions that have been approved.  If we do not, we run the risk of bowling being shut down once again.

We need to allow our centres to open under these guidelines and wait until further easing of restrictions allows us to recommence the sport side of bowling.  We will continue to lobby the government to show them that Sport Bowling can start again, and we have measures in place to allow this to happen.

Please join me in supporting our centres and their staff to help us get back on the lanes as a sport.  We can all use the coming weeks to practice and get ourselves match fit and ready to go for when the time comes.

Please keep checking our website for updates on this topic, but in the meantime if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
