Senior Inter Counties Final 2017

There could have not been a bigger contrast between the ways Dorset Ladies and Yorkshire men triumphed in the 2017 Senior Inter County Championship Finals, writes Paul Le Manquais.

Dorset who secured their second championship title, who impressively lost just one game in their seven matches. They led after game two overtaking Kent and the battle between these two teams remained close throughout the tournament. Kent wobbled in game 6 dropping to third but Staffordshire’s loss in game 7 saw Kent retake the silver medal position. Staffordshire took the bronze medal.

Dorset’s Angie Brown took the high ladies average and game with 197.6 and 254.

Yorkshires win was there sixth on the trot and thirteenth in the tournament history. Their name however unlike the ladies champions was never to appear at the top of the leader board until the final game. Lincolnshire had led in all but one of the previous games and now led by just seven pins. The lane draw saw them on adjacent pairs and that added to the tension. Both teams won but Yorkshires score was higher securing them the title over a clearly devastated Lincolnshire. The bronze medal position was taken by Hampshire.

The men’s high average and game went to Dorset’s Kevin Pilley with a 208.1 and Hertfordshire’s Mike Bergquist with a 256 respectively.

Many congratulations to Dorset and Yorkshire who will be defending their titles in 2018. Full scores can be downloaded here.
