APRIL 30th 2014 SENIOR SELECTION CHANGE IN FORMAT
The initial concept of the trial weekends was to give potential senior Team England members the opportunity to trial on the types of conditions that they would meet at the World Championships.
In keeping with this concept, and to make the trials as close as possible to the real thing, it is intended to change the number of games played in any block from eight to six, as this will be the maximum number of games played in the World Championships in any event in any one block.
It has been brought to our attention that a number of possible candidates for the squad did not apply for the trials because they did not believe they could successfully bowl eight game blocks.
The regulations covering the trials give the team manager the right to accept late entries into the trials. If any senior player who had concerns about the eight game block but believes they have an opportunity to make the squad if only bowling six game blocks, they should make an application to the senior team manager Dave Steiner by the 15th of May.
For those who still want to bowl the maximum number of games, and those that want to make sure that they are prepared for the new patterns, a practice session has now been included into the program on the Saturday morning.
I can also announce at this time that there is a venue change. The second trials in July (11th and 12th) were due to be at Barnsley, however due to numbers and planning we are now not able to use the centre, but I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for wanting to hold the trials there.
The new venue will be MFA Sheffield on the same dates. There are no other changes to the senior trials dates or venues. Looking forward to seeing you at Romford in a couple of weeks - Jo Cundy, Head of Elite Bowling.
